Institute for Positive Mental Health was founded on March 24, 1994. This year IPMH will celebrate 24 years of service on March 24. It is as rewarding today as it was 24 years ago.
IPMH was founded by four women who, more than anything, wanted to help women who suffered from mental illness and/or a physical disability return to the workforce. Our growth mindset has allowed the program to transform from clerical re-training in 1994 to apothecary training in 2018. Today we still support traditional approaches to economic growth however we also develop apprenticeship training and entrepreneurs.
We do not believe in a one-size-fits-all rehabilitation model. Our award-winning TRANSCEND Model of Holistic Rehabilitation remains individual-centered. IPMH does not specifically target economic growth sectors; rather, we target the individual and their ideas and plans for their future. We target gaps in confidence, gaps in skills, and gaps in a customer's personal aspirations, expectations, and behavior. We find them where they are and begin there (to reference Kierkegaard). Like any good coach or mentor, we challenge and support them living into the person that they want to be.
The work of re-making oneself is grueling and revealing. The ways in which life mirrors back to us are not easy to acknowledge or change but isn't that what this Adventure is all about?
After 24 years, IPMH is still up to that challenge.
