IPMH received a grant of the Ultra Plush SuperSoft Polyester Fiber Fil for our Rescue Bears project. Kicking off at Oak Park's annual Day in our Village event, IPMH will be making these adorable and lovable bears for teens who are going through challenges. They are just a little "pick me up" but they represent the opportunities that we all have to re-purpose objects and events in our lives.
Each Rescue Bear was once a mismatch sock, alone, discarded and wholly without purpose. We transform these (cleaned) socks into lovable stuffed bears, stuffed rabbits, etc. as a way of recycling and more importantly re-purposing something perceived as useless into something with purpose. That purpose is to help us feel better even if its just for a moment.
Sometimes a moment is just a blip in time, forgotten and unnoticed. Other times a moment is just the gap that someone needs to hear a word of encouragement, an eye of understanding, a chance to make a different choice. Moments add up and become treasured memories.
Thankfully, Fairfield World donated the stuffing for these Rescue Bears and the community will continue to provide the mismatched, lonely socks! We are accepting donations of socks, colorful mini rubber bands, glue guns, glue sticks and Fine Sharpie markers.
If you would like to donate to the Rescue Bears please send materials and contributions to IPMH, 820 Ontario, 3rd Floor, Oak Park, IL 60302.
